“Matt has been my son Brady’s drum teacher for approx. 10 years now. We started with Matt when Brady was only 4 years old with in-home lessons and then have transitioned into Matt’s studio (in downtown Hamilton) over time. Matt is a great teacher and communicates well with young people. Also, he’s extremely knowledgeable in music and different teaching techniques. Brady enjoys his lessons with Matt and has learned so much from him - we highly recommend Matt for percussion lessons!”

“As a part time gigging drummer, my lessons with Matt are focused on 2 primary areas. One, we discuss and practice songs that I’m learning for the bands I’m playing in. I find this is very beneficial because I have a sounding board to discuss song approaches and we also discuss, breakdown and practice some of the more technical aspects of the song. It's sometimes just about reducing the amount of time it takes to get a song up and ready for the gig. It's also great to have someone who can measure the accuracy and quality of my execution of the technical requirements within a song. Second, we also work on fundamentals. I never took enough lessons and over the years I have developed bad habits, so we work on independence, proper counting, rudiments and stick control. As a gigging drummer, I wanted to stop flying by the seat of my pants and push myself to learn and use the proper rudiments, sticking patterns and rhythms in the right places. Doesn’t matter your age, pushing yourself and learning as an adult can be hard, but Matt has a great personality, tons patience and is able to adjust his teaching approach based on the student’s needs. Thanks Matt!!!!”

“I started lessons with Matt 3 years ago as a real beginner who only took up drumming in my adult years. I’ve experienced great progression as result of Matt’s thorough and enthusiastic approach. I wanted to pursue jazz drumming and he really tailored the lessons to pursue that goal while allowing room to explore other genres too. Matt’s flexibility has really helped me balance this with the demands of my day job. I can’t recommend his teaching style highly enough!”

“Matt has been teaching our son (who was 8 when he started) for 2 years now. My son started with never playing the drums before and with Matt's teaching he has excelled beyond our expectations. Playing all kinds of different songs has really broadened our sons ability to learn and love of music. Matt has an amazing ability to connect with kids where he makes it fun. My son is always looking forward to his next lesson. I would highly recommend Matt to anyone.”

“Matt is an excellent teacher. He has always conducted himself in a professional manner but, at the same time makes it fun with each lesson. I have had lessons in-person (pre-Covid) as well as remotely and the experience is always the same: productive, progressive and fun! I have had other teachers in the past and I found Matt's methods to be the most effective. He has a good understanding of0 what it is to be a great teacher because that makes a big difference. He is very knowledgeable and caters each lesson based on your skill level. I can recall one of my first songs I had asked him to teach me. It was a more complex one (e.g. Math Rock) and I might have been overly ambitious but, I really liked the song and wanted to play it. Matt figured out a way for me to learn the song and break it down in sections. If I could not produce the same results or get the time signatures right etc., he would find ways that would make sense based on my level. Today, I can play that same song almost exactly to the tee all because of his teachings and now I love playing it over and over. I continue to progress and enjoy taking lessons with him. The long and short of it is if you want a teacher who is effective, patient, knowledgeable and fun - go with Matt. Oh and the price point is great for the results you get! kudos.”
